SCHAS provides services in the following counties: Anderson, Blount, Campbell, Claiborne, Cocke, Grainger, Hamblen, Hancock, Hawkins, Jefferson, Knox, McMinn, Monroe, Roane, Scott, Sevier and Union.
We provide in-home caregiving services including cooking, cleaning, personal care, medication reminders, running errands and respite care for family caregivers.
In the 1960s, a federal survey identified a critical need for accessible in-home care to support older adults and adults with disabilities. The findings showed that high-quality care delivered in the home could significantly improve quality of life and often delay—or even prevent—the need for costly institutional care.
In response to this need, SCHAS was established in 1970 with the backing of federal and local governments, civic groups, faith communities, and generous individual supporters. From the beginning, SCHAS has operated as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to helping individuals remain safe and independent in their homes.
Over the decades, SCHAS has remained a leader and innovator in East Tennessee’s caregiving landscape. The agency has consistently set the benchmark for compassionate, reliable, and person-centered in-home services. Today, SCHAS continues to evolve with the changing needs of older adults and adults with disabilities—ensuring that every client receives exceptional support tailored to their well-being, dignity, and independence.
