Bring your curiosity and sense of fun, as well as a water bottle and trail snacks. We will meet at the Black Fox Wilderness trail kiosk at 11 am. For folks who are unfamiliar with Narrow Ridge land, we will meet at Narrow Ridge's Mac Smith Resource Center (1936 Liberty Hill Rd, Washburn) at 10:45 and meet with the rest of the hiking group at the trailhead by 11:00 am. John Johnson Bio:
john johnson (aka johnthetreehugger) is an activist, amateur naturalist, assistant research forester and anti-capitalist. He’s almost an expert in Appalachian tree and spring ephemeral wildflower identification and eastern forest ecology. Always more to learn and love! john got his start learning the details of nature in the grassroots radical environmental movement of the 1990’s. Living at the Sequatchie Valley Institute for 6 glorious years and co-leading the annual Spring wildflower hikes for 20 plus years were a crucial part of his ecological education. Getting more education in forestry and working in the research end of the field for the last 15 years have deepened his knowledge and connection to the Appalachian forests of the Cumberland Plateau and Blue Ridge Mountains. john remains a student of the school called life and a committed anti racist. Spring is his absolute favorite time of year and he’s always excited to see new friends and old out in the woods to celebrate the return of photosynthesis and blooms and share knowledge and stories of the forest.
